Education and Community Outreach

The Chesapeake Chorale Scholarship Program was established in the 1997-1998 season to allow talented student singers to participate in the Chorale without paying membership fees. Each scholarship covers all of the costs associated with membership, including dues, music purchases, and a small stipend towards purchasing concert dress.

The goals of the Scholarship Program are to identify and enrich the musical experience of talented local high school vocal students, to increase and broaden the knowledge of composers and musical forms and styles of various periods, and to increase the education and community outreach efforts of The Chesapeake Chorale.

The funding for the Scholarship Program is independent of the Chorale General Fund. The Chorale has beenfortunate that through the generosity of its donors, it has been able to offer up to eight scholarships in the 2003-2004 concert season, the highest number since the inaugural season of the program. The Chesapeake Chorale has been a guest artist at several area senior centers and retirement communities, giving a concert to the delight of their residents. The Chorale has performed in the Chapel of the Charlestown Retirement Community, and has been an annual visitor to the Collington Episcopal Life Care Community, including a joint performance with the Collington Singers.

The Chesapeake Chorale is an active participant in BRAVA: Bowie Regional Arts Vision Association, and is a contributor in the building of the new Bowie Center for the Performing Arts in Bowie, Maryland. The Chorale is pleased to be one of the performing arts groups invited to appear at the Groundbreaking Ceremony in the Summer of 1999.
